Pirates of the Caribbean On Stranger Tides stars Johnny Depp once again as the funny, and rather insane, Jack Sparrow. This time you don't have Keira Knightley or Orlando Bloom to worry about as their time on the film series ended with “At World's End”.
Was it Good?
In some ways having those key characters missing was refreshing, but in other ways it just leaves you with a sub-story, one that sees Jack Sparrow in search of the Fountain of Youth, a story that lacks the action and adventure of the previous titles.
Some characters do make a return to the fold, so you will see Captain “Hector” Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) and Mr Gibbs (Kevin McNally) reprise their roles, but for the most part you will get chance to feast your eyes on the new kids on the block namely Penélope Cruz who plays Angelica Teach, his lost love, and Ian McShane of Lovejoy fame as the notorious captain Blackbeard.
As stories go the adventure is entertaining to a certain degree, though it's not one of those films that you could truly watch and be entertained throughout. For example the film starts off good, but then there were several moments where the film dips and it eventually turns into one of those films that you can view whilst you're doing something else - with the story running in the background.
However for fans of Jack Sparrow or Johnny Depp in general you will still find this an enjoyable film, or should that be a good family film, and one that has all the silly capers of the first three but with a little less action and adventure.
