Description
Attack on Pearl Harbor is a game based around the events of the surprise military strike by the Japanese on the morning of Sunday, 7 December 1941, which brought the U.S. into World War II.
You get to relive some of the conflicts - including Pearl Habor and wake island - during a serious of missions playing either from the US or Japanese perspective.
Your missions range from dogfights, bombing runs or surveillance - which all merges into the same game play experience.
At the start you have limited planes/bombers to choose from, but more are unlocked as you progress, each plane is equipped with a machine gun and missiles - though some planes have rear gunners to help take out the enemies.
According to the press blur Legendo state that this is is a WWII Flight Sim, but to be honest it does not come close and is more of an arcade game than anything else.
The control system is very simple so you can pick up the controls in moments, so die hard flight Sim fans will not be pleased, but for us mere mortals it at least gives you a chance for instant action.
Unfortunately its repetitive nature cancels out its simplicity as all the missions seem identical, plus the graphics and sound effects are something that you would have expected to see in a game a few years ago.
If you want to hear the sound quality just visit their website as this is the same music and bullet effect noises you hear in the game.
Also you can’t adjust the games graphic or sound settings from the in-game menu, so everything has to be done outside in Windows before you start - very annoying.
Each mission is introduced by a series of cartoon drawings (which are well drawn) but they do get in the way of the action, which in all purposes is made even more confusing by the fact that regardless if you win or loose a mission, you mindlessly carry onto to the next one automatically.
We would have said the Multiplayer could make up for the single player problems but unless you create a game yourself and have double figures for friends you won’t find anyone to play against, as we have never seen any servers online for you to play on.
If you pick up the game for 5 or ten minutes you can get a bit of fun from playing it, but after this it becomes boring and once we put it down we did not bother to return, the AI is nothing special and its collision detection is questionable, as we seemed to crash every time we went into the bombing camera view and we went through a few planes several times without anything happening.
