Car Charger 12v (Provides 2x USB/2x Cigarette Lighter Socket)
Description
With the majority of modern PDA, Smartphones and GPS units all arriving with USB cables/Mains adaptors you may find it costly if you want to charge the device in your car - especially as a HTC style car charger costs around £22. However there is a cheaper solution available in the form of the Power Extras USB car charger, which as the name suggests can provide power for up to two USB devices at the same time.
Box Contents
For your £10 you will get the usb charger and double sided material for securing the device to your cars dash or whatever place you choose.
Design/Build Quality
Considering the device is used for charging both traditional cigarette lighter connected devices (GPS, older Mobiles) and usb connected devices, such as the iPhone, PDA's, mobiles or modern GPS devices, the Power Extra charger is not only well built, but it also looks good as well.
Mood changing lights kick in (which change from blue to green) when the product is switched on and at the top of the device you will also see a power symbol that lights up when charging.
To the front of the car charger you have two sockets for traditional cigarette lighter style connectors and to the side you will find two usb connectors - these also light up in a nice blue neon fashion.
On the connector that plugs into your main cigarette lighter there is a basic on/off switch, which allows you to leave the product in place whilst at the same time not drawing any power.
Tests
Technically this is a no-brainer in terms of tests, it either works or it doesn’t.
But whilst the charger needs a 12v connector we decided to see if there was any functionality for older cars, which are not blessed with the latter.
For a start we could power GPS products, but the iPhone we tested did not work and due to our cars cigarette lighter being held inside our ash tray holder, the connector did not sit tight and we had to keep pushing this back in several times before it would work.
Switching back to our second test car - which had a 12v connector - we had no problems.
We could power our iPhone and GPS without an issue and though the chances of needing to power several devices at once seems slim, the USB charger is a great tool for those that do.
