We Bought a Zoo Review

We Bought a Zoo Review We Bought a Zoo Review

We Bought a Zoo is actually based on British journalist Benjamin Mee’s account of buying Dartmoor Zoo, but in true Hollywood fashion the concept has been moved to America for the setting of the film.

Matt Damon plays the part of Benjamin,  a recently widowed dad-of-two (which is quite a different role to his usual Bourne Action style flicks). Benjamin has to cope with the loss of his wife and also the prospect of raising his two kids (one of which is pretty messed up). Events unfold which forces Benjamin to up and leave his city life and purchase a run-down property, which just so happens to be a Zoo!

Was it good?

I found the film surprisingly good and only realised it was based on a true story when a piece about the origins of the film came up at the end of the flick.

Matt Damon I have to say plays the role of Benjamin really well, but it’s the relationship he has with his kids, the staff at the Zoo and of course the various animals, which keeps you entertained throughout.

Zoo keeper Kelly (Scarlett Johansson) also brings to the table an added touch of romance that almost makes the film borderline Romcom.

Regardless of this I think “We Bought a Zoo” is a lovely film for all the family to enjoy!
