Description
After playing the demo the other week we were extremely excited to get our review copy last Friday and yes we did go crazy over the weekend and played it till the end so we could write this review and then get back to the fight.

Essentially it’s the fourth instalment in the Call of Duty series, but for the PC side they missed out on number three - as this was a console only title.

COD4 is still a FPS shooter but moves away from the WW2 era by placing you in modern present warfare, where you play as part of the SAS (as a character called Soap) and US Marines (as a character called Jackson) in a twisting storyline which involves you taking out some terrorists and trying to stop their plans for nuclear domination.

The storyline is a lot better than our description above especially as the story unfolds during the game in a cinematic experience and it really gets you pumped up for some action.

To describe playing COD4 is like describing being in a Hollywood action blockbuster, the graphics are simply stunning and some of the best we have seen - just as good as Crysis in our minds.

Like COD2 you are fighting with your fellow soldiers and the atmosphere in the game is enhanced by the musical score, the spoken character voices and chatter that goes on between the NPC (Non Player Characters) and yourself. With 'Alien' quotes thrown in such as 'check those corners' it’s all good stuff.

Before each mission you are presented by a graphical objective screen showing you the basic goals for your mission. Again the words don't describe how cool this is, as the briefings create a believable atmosphere that makes you feel like you are being thrown into a real-life hostile environment, with just you and your colleagues to help.

Missions range from taking out or capturing targets to rescuing your fellow soldiers that have been captured, however there are a few flash back missions, including one where you take control of Captain Price in a sniper mission. This was one of our favourite levels and it made us feel like we were in the film 'Behind enemy lines'.

Also during the game are some excellent cut-scenes which break up the action.

At your disposal are a nice stack of cool weapons and gadgets ranging from night vision, grenades, flash bangs, and sniper rifles to shotguns all of which can be swapped in combat with the bodies that litter the playing field after a fight has taken place.

You can also mount machine gun placements and at times take control of helicopter gatling guns and aerial recon attack planes - which is way cool.

The cars that litter the streets can also be used as a weapon, with several blasts taking the car out and anything standing next to it. Oh and you can shoot enemies through weak materials such as wood and thin sheet metal - nothing is safe!
