When it comes to mouse pads we usually don’t give these a second thought. As long as our mouse is sitting on a reasonable surface and we can use the mouse with Windows we are happy. However in the world of gaming the mouse pad becomes a little bit more scientific. After all if you are in the middle of a clan match and your mouse slips or does not register an input then you could potentially lose the game.
Tt eSports (Thermaltake) sent us one of their Dasher Gaming mouse pads for testing to see what we thought and to be honest as mouse pads go this is one of the best we have used - not to mention it being one of the largest mouse pads we have ever seen!
Box & Design
The Box the mouse pad comes in is pretty cool. It’s kitted out in TT eSports logos and in certain places a nice gun metal grid pattern.
The mouse pad is quite large compared to a standard mouse pad, measuring 320 x 400mm! However this is something you easily get used to. It also ships with a wrap-around velcro strap which comes in handy for transportation as this makes it easier to place the mouse pad back in the supplied carrying bag.
The pad itself features the Tt logo at the bottom left hand side and the Dasher wording at the top right and is sported by a red/white edging. This looks good but the overall finish is spoilt a touch by the finishing cut of the mouse pad as the edges look like they have been poorly cut from the master template. Even so the overall feel of the pad is still of a high standard.
Even in direct sunlight (for the past few weeks) the pad's colour has not fadded - you get the odd bit of dust mind, but its nothing that can't be wiped off.
Here comes the Science
At the top you have a silk compound that provides low friction speed control, which in layman terms means it's optimised for gaming mice regardless of the sensitivity settings and sensor type that your mouse is set at.
The base of the mouse pad contains a rubberised coating which makes the pad stick to a hard surface like glue!
In Use
Due to the pads size you will need a larger desk or surface area, but the pads circumference does come in handy. Not only do you get a larger surface to use your mouse on, which prevents it from slipping off the edge, your wrists also get a comfortable place to rest on.
During Office or Gaming use the pad worked flawless and we have not had the usual problems with our optical mouse, when it sometimes goes crazy and the cursor shoots off everywhere, so the pad has helped with the accuracy immensely.
Summarise
Granted the mouse pad finishing edges could be better, but for the price its comfort factor and performance certainly make this a worthwhile purchase, not only for gamers but for those who are office bound to.
