The car cradle has also had the cat walk treatment and though it looks as if it will never fit in your car due to its size and handle shape design, it worked a treat and has one of the strongest suction cups we have ever seen, you could walk up glass windows with a pair of these (though we would not recommend it).

Navigon are also one of a handful of companies that remove the multimedia functions to concentrate on the Navigational experience and we are big fans of this, after all you buy a SatNav to navigate and not to listen to music.

What you do get is a unique interface and a selection of innovative features, the interface in question is different because it contains a series of animated menu options, so with a click of a button the option expands and another click sees it retract, this has the benefit of cramming more options into a smaller space, whilst still making it easier to navigate around the options.

Thankfully Navigon have sorted out the speed issue with this (that plagued the older 7000 TS model) and it now works pretty smoothly.

Inputting of destinations is straightforward to a certain degree and the usual methods of inputting postcodes and address are catered for, but it lacks a full QWERTY keyboard so all you have is an A-Z keyboard and two other screens containing numbers and special characters.

Also if you input a full postcode you can't then refine the search further by adding a house number or street, so you have to put partial postcodes to get the full mix.

However you do have the option of saving your destinations as voice commands, which you can then navigate to later from the front screen by simply speaking back your saved command.

We have to say that the majority of times this option worked well, but it depends on how clear your initial recording was as to how accurate it can be.

A Bluetooth hands free option has now been added to the 7110 which was missing on the older 7000 model, this allows you to use the device as a hands free kit and was simple to setup and use.

Interestingly you now have a security pin function which will allow you to lock your GPS device with a password, thus rendering it unusable unless the password is entered.

During testing we found the device to be quick at locating our position and maintaining a satellite fix, all route-recalculations were quick and efficient, but more importantly route calculations have been optimised which was another criticism of their earlier TS 7000 T model.

Also the TMC alerts and safety camera features worked a treat during our tests with the latter showing you both visual and audible warnings of approaching cameras.

There is no text to speech voice directions on this model, but voice directions were clear and precise and it does speak major ‘A’ road junctions such as ‘turn left onto the A5127’.

We also noticed that you can now enable a new scenic route option, which once activated is designed to take you around the longer, but more interesting routes during your trips – useful if you wanted to explore your surroundings, but don't want to get lost.

Some of the best options we have saved till last, the first of these is the useful Logbook function which you can activate before each trip. Once you start to drive the unit will begin to record information, such as mileage and speed, then when you have finished your route the information gathered can be fed into Excel in human readable form, which makes it an excellent tool for company car drivers.

The next innovative features are a god send for those who struggle with complex junctions. During your travels when entering major junctions the software will guide you both visually and audibly into which lane you need to be in.

And if you are on a motorway, such as the M6 and want to join the M42 turn off, the Reality view can kick in which then switches to a graphical - real time -representation of all the signs and lanes, it then guides you once again both visually and audibly until you have got into the correct junction and lane.

Ok to answer the question, inside the box you get the car cradle, car charger, AC mains adaptor, carrying case, TMC aerial, manual and USB cable. The TMC works by automatically or manually picking up FM radio frequencies and then transmits any traffic info to the unit, this will either show you all traffic problems or those specific to your route. You can then avoid traffic problems on your route accordingly, with the unit doing this automatically or manually.

The speed camera warnings are both visual and audio, so it shows you a speed camera icon on the display and gives you a warning sound. The unit can be updated with their downloadable software called 'Navigon Fresh', this allows you to update the unit via the connected USB cable (prices for map updates/camera will vary). At the time of the review they were not available as the product had not been released in the UK. We hope this answers the above questions?
