Description
The Genius Navigator 805 is a 1600dpi Laser mouse that benefits from its 2.4Ghz USB wireless connection.
Once again you are not going to need to shell out a great deal for the mouse, at only £20 it’s worth a look at for this reason alone.
Unlike other Wireless mouse we have come across this has a greater frequency range and as a result installation was a lot quicker than previous products we have used, with the mouse being detected instantly by the USB wireless adaptor.
The only problem we faced was with the position of our USB ports, as they were at the back it did struggle after a while to pick up the mouse and as a result we needed to press the connect button, this was due to our PC being located near a wall. Moving the adaptor to a front USB port would be the best place to use and install this mouse.
From a design point of view there is nothing exciting about the Navigator 805, with a flat plain look made up of silver and black colours. It takes two AA bateries underneath which does make it slightly heavy, but It’s comfortable to use for a while and the buttons give off a reassuring click - plus it can be used both by left or right handed users.
Installing its software gives you several additional features, such as security and a quick application launch circle that allows you to pick from a pre-defined list of commonly used programs, such as Windows Media player or you can switch to a custom application circle that you can use to launch programs of choice (from your hard disk).
The security option is activated by pressing the small lock symbol on the mouse and it effectively locks out your computer until a password has been entered - it can also display a picture of your choosing at the same time. However this function did not work on one of our PC's and we can only hazard a guess that it was incompatible with either our virus checker or firewall software.
Moving on you also get a nice mail checker function that can sit monitoring your emails during a gaming sesh, once it detects any emails you can get it to play a sound clip informing you that mail has arrived or specify which emails you want to monitor, so if you want a blast on a computer game but still need to keep an eye open for important mail you can now do both.
