Description
When we heard that a 22" wide-screen display was going for under £140 with a HDMI port, we had to get one in to see if it was too good to be true. And after a solid week of use, we can definateley say it is was better than we expected.

Cut Backs

Of course to get the screen at such a low price point cut backs had to be made and these consist - from what we can tell - of the following...

No DVI - Of course most retail graphics cards will come with a D-Sub to DVI adaptor but make sure you have one before purchasing. The quality from the D-Sub was generally good, but we did have to adjust the sharpness of the screen, as at times the text was a slightly faded from left to right, this does not happen all the time, but could be a down side to the lower price and D-Sub connection.

Stand - The stand was pretty flimsy, so much so that we believe it would float if tossed in the air. The lower quality does make it harder to tilt the screen back, but luckily this is not something you would do frequently. The screen also shakes a touch when accessing the underside menu controls.

No headphone port: You also don't have a headphone port so if you want to pipe music out when connected to a PS3 you will have to get an external sound source (such as an amp).

Design/Ports

With the negatives out of the way, let’s move onto the positives, for one the inclusion of the HDMI port was in essence a more worthwhile addition than the DVI, mainly because it offers a means to connect up to a console such as the XBox 360 or PS3.

Most of the time you are looking at £200 + screens to get the HDMI port, so if you are on a budget it would be worth the low price point. Though as mentioned to get sound via the PS3 you are going to need an external sound source such an Amp to drive the speakers, which will of course become expensive.

The HANNSG does have a few clever design touches, for one we liked the position of the menu buttons underneath the front of the screen (despite of the unstable rocking when used) and the G symbol lights up in a neon blue fashion.

There is also a black border positioned around the screen, which gives the impression that the screen is bigger than it is or this could simply be a natural occurrence because the screen is not fully 22" and the borders simply fill in the gaps - either way it at least gives the screen a larger appearance.

Sound Quality

We have been using the internal speakers constantly for a week or so and yes they are feeble when you first hear them, but after a while we could happily listen to music or play games/DVD's and we got used to the quality.

Picture Quality

First off doing a scan of the screen we found 1 dead pixel at the top of the screen, though this screen has been out on review countless times, so this may have an impact in some way.

As for quality we have to say from using the screen with general Windows use, DVD/DivX HD content and games it performs well, especially for its price point, for sure you need to head into the screen setup to adjust the sharpness and brightness/contrast levels but we found no visible ghosting in any of the games we played, BF2/Orange Box and blacks were actually good as well, though we had to up the brightness to max on a few films we watched. However the anti-glare coating coped well in bright conditions.

I suppose if you test the screen with probes and monitor testing software you will find a few glitches with the colour matching and quality, but our tests simply involved using the screen for around 8-10 hours a day for a week and we have to report that the HANNSG is a screen that you get used to and for under £140 you can't go wrong.

With the HANNSG HG216DP we have no hesitation in recommending the screen for those on a tight budget.

The inclusion of the HDMI port is also useful for connecting up to a HD console or to a compatible appliance.

Though you won't find a DVI or headphone socket, but for just under £140 you can't go wrong.
