microSD compatible device
Description
As well as the 2GB miniSD card we were sent for
review this month, PNY also sent us a 1GB microSD (Transflash compatible) card which is what we will be looking at next.
Specification wise you are looking at 15MB/s Read speed and 7MB/s write speed which is pretty good for a card as big as a fingernail.
The package contents comes with a 2 year warranty and it also has an SD card adaptor so if you happen to have another device with a compatible port you are in business.
Again we decided against using synthetic benchmark tests because the card would behave differently depending on your hand held device. Instead we put the card through a series of real world tests on our NokiaE50, in other words we used the card for around a week and then saved and utilised software that would take advantage of the 1GB storage.
We found that listening to music, running applications and general performance could not be faulted, everything ran as well as you would expect from an external storage card.
Playing a movie from the card was not as quick but this was down to the Nokia E50 rather than the card itself as our test movie was a bit stuttered in both external and internal memory, when me moved the card (using the SD adaptor) to our Palm Treo 650 and played the movie it ran like a dream.
The last test we made was again using the supplied SD adaptor and we simply used the card inside our Genius DV120 video camera (review of this coming soon) and again the cards speed could not be faulted.
Price wise you are looking at just under £9 which is on par with the standard average but you are getting a solid performer.
