Ambient Design - developer of creative software applications and interfaces - today launched ArtRage 2.5, a new version of its paint package software for Windows and Macintosh OS X.
ArtRage 2.5 is designed to provide a realistic and fun simulation of using paint on a canvas, along with pens, pencils, oil paint, crayons, chalk, felt pen, a glitter gun and other tools. ArtRage 2.5 is aimed at beginners, but also offers more professional features including layers and swatches for advanced users.
ArtRage 2.5 introduces two new types of tool – a ruler and stencils. Working just like its real-world counterpart, the ruler helps with more exact sketchings, predefined lines and curves, and can be used to lock the cursor to the edge in order to draw straight lines.
Stencils are a common traditional artist’s tool used by children and professional artists alike. ArtRage 2.5 makes it easy to create stencils, which can be painted, coloured in or drawn around. They can be easily moved around, rotated and scaled, again working in exactly the same way as the real thing. Both the ruler and stencils can also be personalised.
The new painting package has been redesigned to include a virtual ‘toolbox’ for items that are placed on the canvas, such as rulers, tracing images and reference images that are used regularly. It is positioned at the bottom edge of the screen, cleaning up the working area while enabling access to the features. In the new version of the software, new colour swatches can be named when saved in the toolbox to make the swatches more accessible and easier to find.
ArtRage 2.5 enables images to be created with the use of layers. Individual layers can be scaled, moved and rotated either independently or in groups. Multiple, transparent layers can be added and each layer is separate from the last so that the paint will not blend when applied. The texture of the paint strokes however, will still show through. Each layer has its own paper properties and can be moved and merged with others.
Files created in Adobe Photoshop with named and group layer information now appear when opened in ArtRage 2.5. Alternatively, ArtRage documents also export to Photoshop files with their groups and names intact.
ArtRage 2.5 is priced at $25.00 (£12.00 – subject to variation depending on the exchange rate) and available to download now from www.ambientdesign.com.
