IBM is revealing a series of new transportation innovations that have the potential to change the way people travel.
IBM Labs has unveiled three new systems designed to ease traffic congestion worldwide. Using an “intelligent traffic system,” traffic lights can make real-time adjustments needed to ease congestion and clear paths for emergency vehicles.
IBM has also unveiled plans for a notification system that alerts commuters of mass transit delays via their cell phones and other mobile devices.
Finally, IBM’s “Sally”, a voice-recognition navigation and entertainment system, can provide directions hands-free and enables drivers to check on real-time flight delays and send and receive e-mail.
