Customers at Oxford Street's department store "Selfridges & Co" can now enjoy Minority Report style interactivity, courtesy of innovative marketing technology company "Betaminds".
Sky HD is using Betaminds "Interact FX", a projector technology solution for gesture-based interaction, to promote its High Definition TV offering.
Customers who walk through the projected image can interact with it, moving their hand or foot across it to reveal a new frame or video.
Sky HD's point of purchase display in Selfridges is the first installation of such a system in a UK retail environment.
Kenneth Siber, co-founder of Betaminds, said: "With Interact FX, images can be projected onto floors, walls or any surface, and can be made to cover any area - from a table top to large floors, from long walkways to entire walls. The opportunities are endless and only your imagination sets the
limits."
Interact FX is designed for four different market segments:
- Fun and education - at play centres, theme parks and fun fairs, the Interact FX system allows multi player games to be played, such as air hockey, basketball and hopscotch - or Twister.
- Events - the system can create 'crowd-stopping' effects inside a venue, such as interactive walkways on the floor or walls. Corporate logos can be blended in, as can an interactive game that gets everyone talking.
- Bars, pubs and clubs - the special Table FX version can create interactive tabletops or bar counters: as people put their drinks down, the table will surround it with a ring of fire or other effects. Interactive drinks selectors or menus can be built, which are controlled by the wave of a hand.
- Marketing - Interact FX can create effects in a retail environment (e.g. the Sky HD display in
Selfridges)
The system is geared up for promotions, brand launches or special campaigns. Or it could be used for tradeshows and shop entrances, particularly in shopping centres, where competition for customer attention is very intense.
