Most people hard of hearing use cochlear implants which contain tiny electrodes that stimulate the auditory nerve in the brain directly. Because there are so many neurons something like 30,000 you can understand how hard it is to replicate sounds that can be heard audibly.
Ever wondered what it feels like to hear the world around you from a hard of hearing point of view?
Well the website 'Scientific American Frontiers' has created a game that shows the different stages of cochlear implant technology evolution by playing an audio sample, each one mimicking the technology right up to today's modern 22 electrode system.
This is such a fascinating website that you can truly imagine what it must feel like for people with hearing difficulties.
