Description
Unlike the iPod shuffle which uses its own clip to attach itself to your clothing, the iPod nano 3G is still small but does require a bit of intervention to be used in a sports environment.
Design/Features
We also managed to get hold of a Sports kit for the iPod nano recently and with this we could attach our iPod nano to our arm and then use the device down the local gym or when running/cycling.
With the pack you get two interchangeable covers (Pink/Orange), the slash proof screen protector, a strap and the main splash proof casing.
There is a certain knack to fitting the casing to your nano, as we found out during testing. If you simply try and slide the iPod nano into the casing (like a pillow) then due to the tight fit of the design this could take an age to install.
So we found that the best bit was to stick the nano through the gap housed in the casing (which was used for the screen to show through) and then installation was a lot easier - some of the images in the gallery will show this off better.
The main casing also provides a gap for your headphone socket and the two interchangeable covers can be swopped in place for the colour that suites, as you can see from the images it is splashed with a touch of black as well which gives it a humbug look.
Once the main casing/cover has been fitted you then add a piece of rubber at the base, which provides additional protection from splashes and then a screen protector is added to complete the overall protection. The latter also is a bit fiddly to house and we would question if it would stay put when running.
Finally you have to add the strap that will go around your arm, this again takes time to adjust so you can get the best and most comfortable position, but when active it does feel pretty sturdy.
Testing
We mentioned above that the fitting process was a bit long winded to start with, but the casing does need to be as snug as possible to the nano to prevent movement and provide the maximum splash proof protection.
The outer cover does provide a means of being able for you to press and use your buttons, but there is one point in the material - see image gallery - that feels a bit flimsy and will no doubt snap at some point in its life time.
In use the sports kit does provide you with the ability to use your iPod nano in the gym, whilst cycling or when running and the added splash proof casing will at least give you protection from light rain.
