Description
As the name give it away the LG is most certainly shinny due to its mirrored front and silver finish. This certainly will raise a few glances if you parade the phone around.
We do have to point out that after a while the phone does build up a lot of finger prints and grease which kind of tones the look of the phone down a tad.
The feature phone also weighs 115g which is slightly heavier than some of the new phones doing the rounds and we have our doubts that the mirrored front won't be scratched if placed in the same pocket as your keys.
Of course looks aren’t everything and thankfully the LG shine also packs some decent features to go along side its sexy exterior.
The initial menus are controlled by a scrolling wheel which you can use to select options and roll up or down to Navigate, this takes a bit of practice and is generally fine to use, the smaller buttons to the side of the wheel are awkward to press mind.
The keypad starts off being fairly comfortable to use but after a while you tend to get tired of pressing in the keys so prolonged use is best avoided unless you want some RSI - its not that bad honest (ed).
Most Websites display fine on its 240 x 320 LCD screen which is large enough to view pages pretty comfortably. Unfortunately there is no 3G support so you are going to have to put up with hi 2.5G capabilities for your internet connectivity.
Its PC software suite is average to say the least, you get the ability to sync your contacts with Outlook and use the phone as a USB modem but that’s about it. As you can view the contents of the phones storage from "My Computer" we feel the product relies more on 3rd party applications than its own.
The applications included with the phone are pretty good, there is a document viewer for viewing Microsoft office programs - which we had no problems viewing Excel, PowerPoint or Word documents. And there is a series of utilities, for example an alarm, stop watch, currency converter and two games.
Though you get a propriety interface for headphones the ear piece section can be exchanged for any headphones that use a 3.5” jack. Plus the interface section does include playback and volume controls for when listening to music.
The music player includes a handy graphic equalizer and we have to say our MP3's sounded pretty good. Videos are played using the 3gpp format and again did their job fine.
Its just a pity that the phone comes with a small 45mb of storage with nearly half of this space being taken up by reserved software - so an optional memory card is a must.
Battery wise was not bad either with a pretty aggressive power saving option which turns off the screen pretty quick. It did have a strange issue with the battery indicator, at some points it was displaying a full battery and then it dropped down only to rise up again when left for a day or so.
