i-mate have always been a company who strives to release sleek and portable PDA devices and the JAMA 101 is no exception, however for those looking for high-end features you will have to look elsewhere.

Design
The one area that the JAMA really excels is with its design, not only does the device weigh a meagre 110g, it is also comfortable to hold (Partially due to its rubberised coating) whilst making calls or using the supplied stylus.
The 2.5mm headphone and USB Ports found at the base are also held underneath a protective rubberised sleeve.
And to the left you have your microSD card in a handy to reach place, to the right you have your camera shortcut button and volume controls.
Finally its 2.4" Transflective screen was actually pretty good, despite of its 240 x 320 resolution and videos looked great, plus icons and text were clear.
Software/Performance
For software you get the Windows Mobile 6 Professional software, which means you get the full suite of Office Mobile programs (Word, Powerpoint and Excel) but using the Virtual keyboard for editing does take a bit of getting used to, especially if you are accustomed to keypads. So a Bluetooth keyboard may be a useful purchase to get the most from the software.
Whilst not in the same league as HTC, i-mate have customised the Home screen by including shortcuts for rotating the screen to landscape mode, accessing your recently received mail and a Windows Mobile media control panel, for quick access to your mp3 tracks.
Generally the JAMA 101 coped quite well (considering its 300Mhz CPU) at running videos, though at times the latter and music playback did skip a touch. Also opening documents could be a bit quicker, but overall it’s not a major concern.
Memory wise you will find around 23mb of system RAM and 32MB of storage, so an additional microSD card is a must.
Its camera produced poor quality images/videos and you won't find a flash or macro mode, though you do get a little mirror at the back for self portraits. The shot time was quick, but the time it took to save hi-quality images was painfully slow.
Call quality was fine and like we mentioned earlier its light weight does help if you are making longer calls.
Connectivity
This is one area that really lets the JAMA 101 down, you only get Bluetooth 1.2 and Tri-band GSM/GPRS for connectivity, so you won't find EDGE, 3G or Wi-Fi.
Web browsing does take a hit as a result and this will impact in the devices selling appeal.
Battery Life
The 1020 mAh has a claimed talk time of up to 4 hours and a standby of 150 hours. However due to the lack of features you can expect to squeeze a bit more life out of the device.
