The story kicks off brilliantly, the reapers are back and they have teamed up with the collectors a race of aliens that everyone thought only to be myth, but that all changes when human colonies start disappearing, the new alliance refuse to believe what is happening so an unlikely partnership is formed - the reincarnated John shepherd and Cerberus organisation - to save humanity.
First impression of this game is OH MY GOD, the graphics are fantastic and I love how the game starts, the story just seems to grab you and suck you in to the game.
I like how this game gives you a do over giving you the opportunity to either stay and continue as a paragon or turn to the dark side as a renegade. Similar to the original Mass Effect these choices are determined by conversations and actions. I also like the way you get to change and customise your armour or on-board outfits (you do spend time chillin’ on your ship!). There is particular armour that just radiates mercenary, it's called the blood dragon armour and it reminds me of the Cylon from Battle Star Galactica.
The game to me is a great improvement from the original as you find that the enemy are far tougher and cover vast areas.
The only thing that is limited is your ammo, so you must make the shots count but that means the player must then use his team mates to survive and get the mission done.
The game has gotten a lot neater in terms of how you can improve your characters/space ship/weapons where it works on experience-points and you’re not finding weapons that can't be used by the characters until your level 8 in that weapon class.
However on the flip-side, with all these improvements it does cause the game to be very slow when loading – more so when moving from one location to another.
Despite the above I found Mass Effect 2 was really good fun and hard to put down. All the Improvements to this game are amazing! I think this will be a hard one to beat and I look forward to the third installment!
