Design
On first impressions the device certainly doesn’t look like a business phone, in all honesty it actually looks better than the N82 which costs over twice as much.
The phone is light weight at 100g but does feel a bit slippery when held, but it’s not as bad as say the iPhone to hold.
Its 2” screen features a 240 x 320 resolution making it sharp despite of its small size, but cleverly the screen looks larger than it is due to the black boarders positioned to the side of the screen.
The tiny keypad was comfortable to press when texting or compiling emails, but the set of control buttons above the keypad were harder to press due to their small size.
Software/Performance
The E51 provides a lot of utilities to get any small business off the ground, apart from the standard Symbian office viewers, FM Visual Radio, MP3 Ringtones, Voice Recording, Organiser,Contacts, Calendar,To Do List, Alarm Clock, Calculator, World Clock and media players supplied, you get a nifty little program called Active Notes, which allows you to insert images, sounds, bookmarks and videos alongside your text.
Web browsing was also doable even on the small screen and general performance from the 369Mhz was more than enough to power all the features. Videos played back fine, programs opened up quickly and with 123MB of free memory to play with this will at least allow you to add several documents before you need to add an external card.
Its 2MP camera was the only let down, with shots coming out grainy due to the lack of flash support - we believe the E51 can also be purchased without a camera, but we're not sure on the price of this.
As for voice calls you have Quad-Band reception for usage in multiple countries and the call quality was also clear during our test conversations, but of course this will differ depending on your sim provider.
Connectivity/Battery
One of the most impressive aspects of the phone is its wealth of connectivity features, the device can easily put top brands to shame.
For a start you get 3G with the higher HSDPA support and then there is dual Wi-Fi bringing up the rear.
You also get Bluetooth and an infrared port so there is multiple ways of getting external data sent wirelessly to your device.
Battery life is a lot better than the N82 we reviewed the other day and the device can last a few days if you ease off the throttle when using the Wi-Fi or 3G usage. The E51 has a claimed battery life of 4.5 Hours Talk Time and 310 Hours Standby.
