Design
The Samsung F700 does have the iPhone look about it that’s for sure, especially as it is relatively the same length, but due to the slide-out keyboard it is a tad chunkier than the latter. Plus it may be a bit too large for those with small hands.
Also at the top of the phone you will find a 3.5mm headphone and USB port, but the only downside is the protective cover that tends to hinder access rather than help.
Like the iPhone the front of the F700 consists of a large screen (3.2" ) and a home button at the base - for gaining quick access to the shortcut menu.
The interface of course comprises of a touch-screen element, but we would compare it more to the LG Viewty than the iPhone, as each finger press results in a reassuring vibration effect.
On the whole the interface is pretty basic in appearance, but it was still responsive enough. However it does take a while to become accustomed to the way it works, especially if you have been used to a more traditional mobile interface in the past.
Also clicking on links via web pages can be more of a challenge, we would say more so for those with large fingers.
What makes the Samsung an appealing prospect is the inclusion of a slide-out keyboard - but you can still use an-screen virtual version if you so wish. We found the keyboard to be really comfortable to use and the screen automatically rotates to landscape when activated. For those who have used the HTC TyTn II in the past the keyboard offers a similar feel.
