Hauppauge Digital has released a low cost TV 'stick' that allows laptop owners to watch live, digital TV, anywhere. The Hauppauge WinTV Nova-t Stick has an rrp of just £49.99 inc VAT and comes with a high performance portable aerial and includes the latest high gain silicon tuner technology for improved Freeview reception.
As the stick is like a USB memory stick all you need to do is plug the device into a spare USB socket on a laptop or desktop PC, and a TV aerial, then the supplied software will scan for Freeview TV channels -up to 40 digital channels in much of the UK.
Once installed, owners can watch TV in a resizable window, or full screen. Digital radio is also provided.
Available now from high street and online retailers, the Nova-t stick is HDTV compliant (the BBC are trialling HD broadcasts on Freeview at present). Also the included software allows owners to schedule and record live TV to the PC's hard disk for later playback, or to burn to DVD (approx 1.6Gb per hour).
The unit comes with a 2-year warranty and includes Hauppauge's WinTV software on CD, for viewing and recording programmes.
Requirements:
- Windows XP
- Free USB2.0 socket
- Sound card and speakers (usually built into laptop)
- Graphics with Direct Draw support
- Television licence
- CD-RW drive to create VCDs or DVD-RW drive to create DVDs (optional)
