The Sony SXRD – Silicon X-tal Reflective Display - is designed to deliver picture quality to tempt home cinema buffs.
Sony SXRD is the key technology behind selected Sony Full HD (1080p) Home Theatre projectors and BRAVIA Full HD (1080p) Micro Display Projection TVs. These include the QUALIA 004 and VPL-VW100 projectors, and the 55-inch BRAVIA A-Series TV. Now, the range of Sony SXRD products is growing further with the recent introduction of the VPL-VW50 projector and the 70-inch BRAVIA R-Series TV.
What makes Sony SXRD™ so special is its design where the silicon backplane contains the driving circuitry that controls the liquid crystal matrix. Normally this would be routed between the pixels, creating a grid pattern which is visible as the infamous ‘screen door’ effect in the image itself. Without this grid of control circuitry, the tiny 7µm pixels can be very close together – just 0.35µm apart. This results in a smoother and more detialed picture.
Features
In BRAVIA Micro Device Projection TVs the contrast ratio of the SXRD panels is further enhanced by the Cinema Black Pro function to deliver deep black and bright white simultaneously which results in high contrast ratios up to 10,000:1. The Home Theatre projectors feature a similar technology called Advanced Iris 2 which is capable of automatically adjusting itself to the characteristics of the film itself, scene by scene. The combination of Sony SXRD and Advanced Iris 2 yields a contrast ratio of up to 15,000:1, the largest of any home projector currently available.
A quick response time of 2.5ms yields a crisp, fast moving image.
Sony SXRD is a true Full HD (1080p) technology and offers a native resolution of 1920 x 1080 in anticipation of the time when 1080p is the connoisseur’s choice of HD format for home cinema.
