Description
We recently had an unusual request from the PR chaps who look after MESH computers. Basically they asked if we wanted to check out and review MESH's new website. It's something we have not done before but we thought we would give it a shot. As a result we then had an idea of combining a review of their site at the same time of ordering a PC - which we will be reviewing later (thus a feature was born).
So for the first part of the feature we will be giving an informal review of their main website and seeing if this comes up to scratch.
For the second part of the feature we will be reviewing the PC that we ordered. We have even requested an additional LCD so you can see the differences between the standard 22" and the 24" LCD that they sell with their Quad/Gaming PC's (a touch overkill we know, but we hope this will be helpful if you decide to order a MESH system yourself).
We viewed the MESH website in both IE (Internet Explorer) and FF (Fire Fox) to see if it was compatible with the most popular browsers.
From the moment we laid eyes on the site we have to admit that their marketing/design team have done a great job on the home page and site navigation.
For a start it’s bright and colourful to look at and the splash slideshow certainly entices you to check out what MESH has to offer. The main screen is clutter free as well, with all the important options being available in drop down menus and a series of click-able options at the base of the screen (for accessing reviews of their PC's, support pages and additional retail outlets that sell their machines).
Like the DELL and Alienware sites everything to buy is categorised into machine and career types. But unlike the latter we found it a lot easier to pick computers and to navigate through the options. We think it’s because MESH have managed to provide you with enough information to get you going, but at the same time have kept things as simple as possible (with their clutter free design).
We headed to the desktop drop down menu to start with which gives you a list of items to choose from, in here you can pick PC's that suite your needs, so for example you can get PC's for students, for work or for video editing (to name but a few). We choose the Quad core category as this is what we were interested in ordering.
At this stage we did notice that on FireFox the mouse pointer did not change properly once you hovered over an item, it was the same as you would expect to find when editing text on a word document (so instead of an arrow you get a text editing pointer - picky but noticeable if you use FF).
Anyways back to our previous discussion, when entering your category you can still choose PC's to order on the left hand side based on price, monitor spec or graphics card spec and in the main window it will display a serious of computers in your chosen category (along with a basic description), with prices ranging from £549 to £2000.
After you have selected the computer you want to buy you get further information, including detailed specs, service (warranty info), finance options, image galleries and what software you get inside the box.
